Chennai, Aug 14 (UNI) The Madras High court today upheld the Special court order, aquitting former AIADMK Minister Indira Kumari in the Rs 16.78 crore free saree-dhoti and school uniform scam, when she was a minister in Jayalalithaa regime during 1994-95.
Justice S K Krishnan, dismissing the state government's appeal petition against the order of the Special court, said the trial court had rightly acquitted the former minister,(who is now in ruling DMK) on the ground that the prosecution has not proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
In 1997, during the DMK regime, CB-CID registered the corruption case against Ms Indira Kumari her Personal Assistant Venkatakrishnan and four others.
In 2003, Special court Judge R Rajamanickam, acquitted all the six accused, holding that the prosecution has not proved the case and there was no loss to the exchequor.
The AIADMK, which was in power, during 2001-06 filed an appeal against the Special court order (as the former minister had by then joined the DMK).
