Governor extends greetings

Gandhinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma has extended his warm greetings to the people on the eve of the 62nd Independence Day.

The Governor, in his Independence Day message, has appealed to all citizens to unitedly strengthen the atmosphere of harmony and peace and pledge to transform Mahatma Gandhiji's ''Dream of an united India'' into reality.

He said, ''we have preserved our independence attained by the Freedom Fighters. It is our moral and national responsibility to preserve intact the fine fabrics of social equality.'' ''It is unfortunate that the present era has become victim of value erosion, violence and hatred. It is the need of the hour to create an atmosphere of social reform, mutual trust, amity and integrity in the nation''.

In the present scenario of tryst with terrorism, it has become utmost necessary to follow the humanitarian principles of non-violence, equality and unity in diversity practiced by Mahatma Gandhi, honoured in the world for winning the first and the only freedom fight without bloodshed in the world, the governor said.

''On this occasion of Independence Day, let us rededicate ourselves to lead our nation to peace, progress, prosperity and integrity by following the path paved by the patriot freedom fighters, who laid down their lives for Independence of the Nation,'' added the governor.
