Jaipur, Aug 14 (UNI) Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been promulgated in Hanumangarh district in view of tension between Sikhs and Dera Sacha Sauda followers after self immolation bid by a Dera follower in Pillibanga town today.
According to a Police Spokesman a cloth merchant Bhagwan Das Jindal attempted self immolation outside the Pillibanga Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office this afternoon in protest against alleged character assassination and false propaganda against Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim at a kirtan Deewan held by Sikhs in Lakhuwali village near Pillibanga for past three four days.
Jindal went to the SDM office alongwith a Dera followers' delegation to held meeting with a Sikh delegation convined by the SDM but he suddenly came out and tried to immolate by setting himself fire after sprinkling kerosine.
He was rushed to Hanumangarh district hospital from where he was referred to SMS hospital in Jaipur in a serious condition.
Additional police force had been deployed and prohibitory orders had been promulgated as precautionary measure in view of tension, in Pillibanga and other sensitive areas of the district, the spokesman said.
