Srinagar, Aug 14 (UNI) Despite night-long protests against the alleged atrocities by the CRPF, the authorities today took a bold decision relaxing curfew from 0600 hrs for five hours during which, barring a few incidents of slogan shouting, the situation remained by and large peaceful.
The relaxation period was later extended till 1500 hrs which is likely to be extended, if there is no major incident.
The District Magistrate (DM), Srinagar, today ordered the relaxation of curfew from 0600 hrs for five hours despite the massive night-long protests in the entire city.
The protesters alleged that CRPF damaged window panes of hundreds of houses, besides more than two dozen mosques and other religious places in different parts of the city yesterday. More than 40 vehicles and three-wheelers, parked on the roadside and inside compounds were also damaged by the CRPF, they alleged.
Immediately after the curfew was relaxed, people came out of their houses and long queues could be seen outside the shops selling essential commodities. However, people complained of shortage of milk, though a number of milk federations had pressed into service their mobile van for distribution of milk in the city.
