Vellammal Vidyalaya students celebrate I-day with a difference
Chennai, Aug 13 (UNI) Instilling a sense of patriotism in the young minds, the students of Velammal Vidyalaya, part of the Velammal Group of Institutions, today celebrated the 62nd Independence Day in a unique way by displaying a 62 ft long National Flag.
The flag was on display at the school premises where 62 students dressed up like freedom fighters, who had shed blood for country's Independence, remembered the sacrifices made by them.
Velammal School Correspondent M V M Velmohan told UNI that the management chose to display this giant flag to sow the seeds of patriotism among the students while they were young.
''When they grew up, the students are imbibed in the history of the Nation, acknowledge the blood shed and sacrifice of the valiant patriots and grow to love and respect the nation,'' he added.
The students studying in class three to five ushered in the Indpendence Day by holding the giant flag in the presence of Senior Police officer Ashutosh Shukla, IGP, Operations, Chennai and Ma Foi Management Consultant Managing Director Pandiarajan, who were the chief guests.
The students, dressed like freedom fighters, along with about 500 students studying in the school, formed a human chain to a distance of about one km to create an awareness on Global warming.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shukla and Mr Pandiarajan lauded the school for undertaking this unique initiative and said instilling the spirit of patriotic fervour in the young minds would shape them as good citizens of the country.
