Dehra Dun, Aug 13 (UNI) The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) has strongly condemed the BJP-VHP 'Bharat Bandh' called to protest revocation of land alloted to the Amarnath Shrine board in Jammu and accused the BJP of using the state machinery for its own vested interests.
In a press release issued here today, Congress Chief Spokesperson Surendra Kumar claimed that the BJP government was using the official machinery including the police for its own vested interests.
He said the 'chakka jam' called in the city and the subsequent disruption of normal life proved that the stategovernment did not care for the grievances of the common man.
'' The life of the common man came to a standstill for two hours and it did not occur to the BJP government that there could have been some severely ill people who needed to go to hospital'', he was quoted as saying.
He claimed that the police had also aided the agitators to ensure that the bandh was total.
He also accused the BJP and its allied organisations of inciting an atmosphere of communalism in the state and the country.
