Two ultras killed in encounter

Guwahati, Aug 13(UNI) Two ULFA ultras were killed in an encounter with a joint Army and police team today in Nalbari district of Assam.

Police said the security forces on a tip-off raided Sapaiguri village under Mukalmuwa police station.

On seeing the team, the militants lobbed a grenade at the forces, which also retaliated killing the duo on the spot.

A 5kb improvised explosive devise (IED), a Chinese grenade and an Australian pistol with live ammunition were recovered from the slain insurgents, the police added.

Meanhwhile, the pro-ceasefire faction of the ULFA has received a shot in the arm as the top commander of the opposite faction Ankur Shyam joined them denouncing violence last night, official sources said.

ULFA leader Ankur Shyam was a major ULFA leader of the erstwhile ''B'' company of the 28th Battalion which opposed the peace overtures of the other two companies.
