Gritty Saina lost to Indonesia's Maria Kristin Yulianti 16-28, 21-14 and 21-15. With this, Indian challenge in the Olympics badminton competition came to an end.
In a nail-biting opening game, Saina frittered away a game point before getting her act together to go one up. However, unfazed by the initial setback Yulianti equalised in the next game, helped to a large extent by Saina's mistakes. In the decider, Saina was ahead 11-3, before they changed sides. But after that luck was in Yulianti's favour. She picked up continuous 16 points to which Saina could take only one point.
With 19-12 in favour of Yulianto it was difficult for Saina to come up. It was the battle of nerves and Yulianti kept calm and ultimately came victorious.
This was 18 year Saina's maiden Olympic trip. In the men's competition, Anup Sridhar has already made his exit, losing in the round of 16 of the men's singles event.
