Agartala, Aug 13 (UNI) The Tripura Police has formed a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) to face new challenges of terrorist threats with the report of trans-border insurgent movement in Northeastern states through Tripura.
Director General of Police(DGP) Pranay Sahay said here today that the QRT has been formed with selected policemen, who have been equipped with bomb detection and disposal tools and sniffer dogs, and would carry out security checks across the state.
Mr Sahay added the team was fully equipped with all electronic gadgets of detection and disposal and had also held demonstrations in public places to educate the common people about diffusing IEDs and taking all scientific aid and other precautionary measures, if any, suspicious substance was noticed.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs had asked all the Northeastern states recently to enhance the internal security arrangements, following the report of international terrorist movements through Tripura, while the BSF was put on maximum alert.
''Like other NE states Tripura has also got an extra six battalions of CRPF ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, while extensive search operations have been launched across the state,'' DIG Police (Operation) Nepal Das said.
Meanwhile, an ATTF collaborator, identified as Pulin Debbarma (20), was arrested yesterday from Sidhai area, 30 km from Agartala, and police recovered incriminating documents of ATTF extremists from his possession, he added.
