New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) National Hydro Power Company Ltd (NHPC), the country's biggest producer of power from water, today paid the highest ever dividend of Rs 300 crore for the year 2007-08 to the Union Government, against Rs 278 crore of previous year.
Out of the Rs 300 crore dividend, an interim dividend of Rs 100 crore was paid to the Central Government on January 24 this year.
The cheque for balance amount of Rs 200 crore was presented today to Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde by Mr S K Garg, CMD, NHPC Ltd in the presence of Mr Jairam Ramesh, Minister of State for Commerce and Power, Mr Anil Razdan, Secretary (Power) and Mr A B L Srivastava, Director (Finance), NHPC Ltd.
During 2007-08, NHPC has registered highest ever profit after tax of Rs 1,004 crore against Rs 925 crore in the last financial year, the company said in a statement.
The sales of the company have gone up from Rs 1,963 crore in the previous year to Rs 2,301 crore in 2007-08.
During 2005-06, NHPC had registered a sales of Rs 1,714 crore and net profit after tax of Rs 743 crore and paid dividend of Rs 223 crore.
