Mumbai, Aug 13 (UNI) Lady Luck smiled on a city resident, Dr Kirti Ashok Patel, who won the record jackpot prize of Rs 7.87 crore, becoming the 63rd winner of the Playwin Super Lotto Jackpot, introduced in 2002.
Speaking at a felicitation function here today, Dr Kirti, a Santa Cruz resident and mother of two, said ''Its a big win for us and I thank luck, God and my family. We got to know about the win on July 28, which also was my husband's birthday.'' Dr Kirti, the first Mumbaikar to win such a high amount, said the win had changed her life and the prize money would be used to buy a long cherished flat in Bandra, fund their two sons' education and a holiday abroad. Part of the winnings will also be donated to charity.
Though her husband is a regular player of the game, Dr Kirti took to playing lottery when one of her patients won a prize in one of the draws three years ago. She bought the winning ticket from an outlet in Bandra, whose jackpot draw was rolled out on May 26, 2007 with an initial prize money of Rs 2 crore. Over 14 months on, and the prize money having increased substantially, the jackpot was for Dr Kirti's taking when the draw was held on July 26.
Talking to UNI, Rajesh Bhasin, Director, Playwin said, ''99 per cent of us believe in luck and numbers. Though we do not endorse spending all of one's money in the game or anything, we encourage people, especially the aspiring middle class to take to the game. With a ticket prize of Rs 10, we believe its worth it.'' The Playwin Sikkim Super Lotto Jackpot uses a computerised systems for weekly draws on Thursday (prize money of Rs 3.36 crore) and Saturday (prize money of Rs 2 crore).
The lottery has made 64 crorepatis and over 2,800 lakhpatis with the highest all-time prize of Rs 17.29 crore won by a Kolkata resident in 2006, Mr Bhasin said.
