Karnataka has no right to stop Hogenakkal project:Jaya
Chennai, Aug 13 (UNI) All India Anna DMK(AIADMK) General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today asserted that Karnataka had ''no right to stop the implementation of the Hogenakkal drinking water project as Tamil Nadu was only implementing it on its side.
That Hogenakkal belongs to Tamil Nadu has been accepted since the reorganisation of states on linguistic basis, she pointed out at a press conference , answering questions on Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa's statement against the project.
''They don't have any right to stop the project and Tamil Nadu government must go ahead and implement it'', she said.
She said however, her party was still firm on its opposition to the Sethu Samudram Shipping Canal Project (SSCP) as it was not economically viable and harmed the interests of the fisherfolk who would be deprived of their livelihood if SSCP was implemented.
