New Delhi, Aug 13 (UNI) To deal with the problem of bird menace at the Delhi Airport-- which was causing bird hits by aircraft-- the Government today decided to shut down illegal slaughterhouses in the vicinity and put in place a more organised waste disposal mechanism.
Six critical locations have been identified which are abetting the problem-- Dwarka, Indira Market in R K Puram, Mehram Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Dabri More and Gazipur.
The Civil Aviation Ministry will take up the issues with the Delhi Government, the Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCA) and other stakeholders to expedite action, Aviation Secretary Ashok Chawla said at the meeting held to take stock of the problem.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DAIL) has been directed to adopt best practices to deal with the bird menace at the airport.
It has also been asked to interact and take inputs from the Air Force and international experts.
The Environment Secretary, Delhi Government, and representatives of the Delhi Police, DDA, MCA, Air Force, DIAL and Airports Authority of India, besides senior officials from the Aviation Ministry were present at the meeting.
