Srinagar, Aug 13 (UNI) The authorities today extended curfew relaxation till 1400 hrs in summer capital Srinagar and Badgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, despite massive protests at several places, forcing security forces and police to fire in the air and burst teargas shells.

Earlier, the curfew was relaxed from 0800 hrs to 1100 hrs.

The curfew, however, continued in other major towns of the Valley without any relaxation, sources said.

Police and security forces had to fire in the air at Safa Kadal and Fateh Kadal after bursting teargas shells and repeated batoncharge had no effect on the demonstrators, who were pelting stones.

All shops and business establishments remained shut in Civil Lines, including Lal Chowk, Budshah Chowk and other main business centers in the city.

In some areas, people were seen purchasing essentials from the shopkeepers in their localities. However, they complained of shortage of milk.

As many as 13 people were killed and about 400 injured, half of them police and security personnel, after people defied curfew restrictions and clashed with the forces across the Valley yesterday.
