Coop banks in Perambalur extend loans to farmers

Perambalur, Aug 13: The Cooperative banks in Perambalur district have extended farm loans to the tune of Rs 86.69 crore to more than 47,600 farmers during the last two years.

In a press release here on Wednesday, Aug 13 District Collector Anil Meshram said after the state government's decision to waive pending farm loans, the cooperative banks sanctioned fresh short term loans to the tune of Rs 79.31 crore to 41,028 farmers and Rs 7.38 crore as medium term loans to 6,633 peasants.

Under the micro-credit scheme, Rs 25.30 lakh was sanctioned to 1,276 women and Rs 15.90 lakh to 522 men, he said adding the banks had extended Rs 6.30 crore as loans to 1,162 women Self-help Groups and jewel loans to the tune of Rs 367.36 crore.

Plans were afoot to sanction farm loans to the tune of Rs 41 crore during the current year in the district, he added.
