Closer ties with USA on the cards:Douglas Kelly

Patna, Aug 13: Recognising the re-emergence of Bihar as one of the most vibrant business hubs of eastern India,the American Center has emphasised the need for building closer ties with it.

This view was observed by Director of American Center in Kolkata Douglas G Kelly at a function here last night to mark the first anniversary of the 'American Corner' in the city.

Addressing a gathering of prominent citizens of Patna at the Bihar Industries Association(BIA),where the 'Corner' was set up last year, Mr Kelly said they had decided to bridge the 'communication gap' with Bihar by opening the American Corner in the city last year.

The 'Corner' has a large collection of books,CDs and DVDs on various aspects of American culture,society and politics. Apart from holding workshops,seminars and interactive sessions, it has made the common man aware of America's importance in the global scenario,Mr Kelly said.

He also announced the donation of more books and DVDs by the American Centre.

He complimented the efforts of BIA and several government agencies for their assistance in bringing the socio-cultural ethos of the two countries closer than ever before.

Recognising the present growth-oriented industrial scenario of Bihar, Mr Kelly assured maximum assistance to the business community in setting up joint ventures in the state.

Among others Bihar Culture and Youth Affairs Secretary Vivek Singh,PHED Secretary Sashi Sekhar Sharma,Income Tax Commissioner Ujjal Singh and BIA President K P Jhunjhunwala spoke.
