Bill Gates Foundation launches charity book on AIDS
Mumbai, Aug 13: A charity book on HIV/AIDS 'AIDS Sutra-Untold stories from India', containing the works of 16 authors, was released here on Wednesday, Aug 13. The book contains essays by established authors including Salman Rushdie, Siddhartha Deb, Kiran Desai, Vikram Seth and Shobha De, exploring the human stories behind HIV-AIDS and highlighting its impact and aftermath on different people.
Author Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi said that the book dealt with human existence and its complexities, especially in an age when HIV/AIDS is used in reference to other people when it was as relevant to the Indian middle-class as it was to any other group. ''The difference in my story which also has incidents like sexual assault is that the protagonists realise the need to change their behaviour'' author Sonia Faleiro said. Her story is centred around the connection between commercial sex workers and the police.
