Report indicts police over Chotta Rajan aide's fake encounter

Mumbai, Aug 12 (UNI) A report of the metropolitan magistrate, who had probed a police encounter of underworld don Chotta Rajan aide Ram Narayan Vishwanath Gupta alias Lakan Bhaiya, was submitted before Bombay High Court indicating that the encounter was fake.

The report was today submitted before the division bench consisting of Justices Ranjana Desai and S Belodate. The bench after going through the report, said the judicial officer who had probed the matter had reached on conclusion that the deceased was abducted by the members of police and was later killed by the them. The report also mentions the names of the two police officers who were involved in the fake encounter - Inspectors Dilip Palande and Pradeep Suryavanshi of D N Nagar police station.

The court asked the Chief Public Prosecutor Satish Borulkar to give his opinion on the further course of action upon which Mr Borulkar sought time and asked for the report.

The court, while directing the court registrar to furnish the report, adjourned further hearing till September 20.

The probe was conducted in response to a petition filed by one of Gupta's relative alleging that Gupta was arrested by the police officers of D N Nagar and Versova police station on November 11, 2006 from his residence at Vashi in New Mumbai and was later killed in a fake encounter.
