New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) Mumbai serial blasts accused and brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Anees Ibrahim was today arrested at the Jeddah airport in Saudi Arabia, according to sources.
The 1993 blasts accused was arrested along with three others a they arrived from Dubai to Jeddah, about 50 km away from the holy Mecca town.
However, CBI here refused to confirm the arrest saying it was trying to contact the Interpol in Riyadh.
''We are trying to ascertain the fact, through various channels, whether it is actually 'him' or not,'' said CBI spokesman G Mohanty.
We need to first ascertain the veracity of reports of his arrest and we are contacting authorities of Interpol there, he added.
The other three detained/arrested along with Anees are Sikandar, Chhota Dawood and Majid Jeddahwala.
India does not have any extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia and so getting him back here would not be easy according to officials, but close cooperation with them cannot be ruled out due to recent high-level contacts with authorities there.
Meanwhile, a senior official of the Ministry of External Affairs neither vehementely denied nor confirmed reports of Anees' arrest.
Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil also refused to divulge anything, when mediapersons questioned him on the alleged high profile arrest, saying till he got specific details on the matter he would reserve his comments.
