Bhopal, Aug 12 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh government today endorsed the Women's Policy 2008-12 that aims at ensuring participation of women in the development process.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here, an official release said.
Other objectives include providing protection to women in every field, empowerment and ensuring result-oriented implementation of policies, programmes and schemes for their welfare.
The Policy seeks to prevent female foeticide. Relevant laws would be enforced more vigorously and social awareness enhanced. A mechanism would be put in place to more effectively curb violence against women so that women can come out openly to resist crime against them.
A congenial atmosphere would be created for empowerment of women and girls through education and to provide them quality healthcare and nutrition.
The Policy envisages augmenting employment opportunities for women and to enhance their capacities to earn better. Special efforts would be made for development of adolescents with particular emphasis on health, education, nutrition and prevention of sexual abuse and exploitation.
While ensuring their participation in public spending as per their requirements and priorities, gender budget arrangement would be further extended. The Policy provides for better protection to female labourers and proper implementation and evaluation of laws and policies to safeguard their interests.
It provides for curbs on sexual harassment of women at the workplace. Besides, active participation of women would be ensured in matters related to forests, water, cleanliness and environment in rural and urban areas.
Equal opportunities and facilities would be provided to women living in difficult conditions. Their access to information resources would be increased to ensure participation in information communication technology.
Policy provisions, programmes and schemes pertaining to women would be monitored and evaluated and annual reports prepared.
The government has also prepared an Action Plan to provide the Policy's benefit to women.
