Indian rowers crash out in double sculls

By Staff

Beijing, Aug 12 (UNI) The Indian rowing pair of Devender Kumar Khandwal and Manjeet Singh continued their disappointing performance at the Beijing Olympics, finishing fifth in the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls Repechage 2 here today.

The Indians clocked 7:02.06s to see their chances of making it to the semifinals vanish into thin air.

They failed to improve on their timing of 6:37.13 which they had clocked while finishing fifth in the heats on Sunday.

They will now compete for the inconsequential 13-24 places.

Pedro Fraga and Nuno Mendes of Portugal finished first with a time of 6:39.07s.

Indian hopes in the rowing events now rest on armyman Bajrang Lal Takhar who will compete in the Men's single sculls semifinal tomorrow.
