Panaji, Aug 12 (UNI) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat today led Goa to pay rich tributes to the first chief minister of the state late Dayanand B Bandodkar on the occasion of the latter's 35th death anniversary.
He garlanded the statue of Bandodkar at the Old Secretariat and offered floral tributes at the memorial at Miramar. Several of his cabinet colleagues and legislators followed suit.
The chief minister recalled the glorious contribution made by Bandodkar to the development of the state.
Garlanding the bust of Bandodkar at Farmagudi in Ponda, home minister Ravi Naik lauded the rich contribution made by Bandodkar for the progress and development of the state.
''It was late Bandodkar who spread the network of education to nook and corner of the state by opening educational institutions so that nobody remained deprived of educational facilities,'' he said.
Bandodkar, he said, was leader of the Bahujan Samaj. He was a sportsman who contributed significantly for the promotion of sports in the state. Bandodkar had concerns for the uplift of weaker section of the society. He had also initiated several welfare schemes for elevating the living conditions of the poor, he added.
Several politicians and leaders, cutting across party lines, paid rich tributes to late Bandodkar.
