New Delhi, Aug 12 (UNI) Emphasising on Delhi Government's commitment to providing quality education to all, State Education Minister Arvinder Singh today said the Directorate of Education has taken up the challenge to upgrade all the existing governmenet school buildings.
''Now, old structures will be razed and new environment friendly ones with well-equipped state-of-the- art facilities built,'' the Minister said at the inauguration of new school building of Sarvodya Kanya Vidyalaya at Shastri Park in North Delhi.
Mr Singh said the Delhi Government has been continuously taking new initiatives to make Delhi a model city and well equipped with world-class infrastructure.
Made at an expenditure of Rs 6.53 crore, the new school building is one of the first buildings of any Government school to be equipped with lift to reach different floors.
On this occasion, Mr Singh noted that 12 lakh students study in these schools in Delhi as compared to eight lakh couple of years ago. He said with the ground-breaking efforts of the Education Directorate, the school dropout rate of the students had dropped from 17.5 per cent to five per cent.
Among those present on the occasion were the local MLA Shadi Ram, MCD Councillor and former student leader Shalu Malik, Additional Director Education R K Sharma and Deputy Director Education Nilam Verma.
