Beijing Olympics 2008: Rathore, Samresh fail to qualify

Prior to the event, Rathore had said that he had left no stone unturned to give off his best and was ready to face any outcome. Rathore is the first Indian to win individual silver after Norman Pritchard had won two silver medals for British India at the 1900 Olympics.

Beijing, Aug 12: Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore failed to qualify in double trap final event in Beijing Olympics 2008. He won silver medal at Athens Olympics in 2004.

Earlier on Tuesday, Aug 12, India's Samresh Jung crashed out of 50m pistol event at the Beijing Olympics 2008. He finished 42nd in the qualification round. Jung, a multiple gold medallist from the 2006 Commonwealth Games, shot a series of 88,92,91,86,90,93 to average 9.0 that ruled him out of contention. Jung had earlier missed the cut for the 10m air pistol event finals. Meanwhile, China's Zongliang Tan qualified first for the event, shooting a series of 96,94,93,96,90,96 to average 9.417.

On Monday, Aug 11 Indian shooter, Abhinav Bindra made India proud by winning first single gold medal in 10m Rifle event. This is India's first ever individual gold medal, also first gold in Beijing Olympics 2008.

India won gold medal again after 28 years.
