Chennai, Aug 11 (UNI) A series of programmes had been lined up from August 17 to 24, to celebrate Madras Day, the birthday of this teeming Metropolis, which falls on August 22.
Talking to newspersons here today, Eminent Historian S Muthiah said it was on August 22, 1639 that the grant was signed and given to Francis Day of the East India Company for the piece of no-man's-sand from which the city has grown.
Madras Week, proposed and catalysed by a group of volunteers, who value the heritage of the city, would have 60 programmes this year to create more awareness about the proud heritage of Madras, which had been rechristened now as Chennai.
The programmes, walks, lectures, quiz, exhibitions, including photographical and book releases.
