Saawan's last Monday sees huge rush of devotees
Varanasi, Aug 11: Lakhs of devotees thronged the renowned Kashi Vishwanath temple, one of the twelve ''jyotirlingas'' of the country to perform ''puja and jalabhishek'' on the last Monday of the month of Saawan here today.
The district administration had made tight security arrangements for the occasion. Security cover was especially upgraded at the highly sensitive Vishswanath temple for easy ''darshan-poojan'' by the people.
Past three Mondays had passed off peacefully and without any incident.
A large number of devotees arrived in the city from different parts of the country last night. The darshan began early morning and was still on. The devotees took a holy dip in river Ganga at various ghats.
However, as per the reports, lesser number of ''Kaawariyas'' were spotted today in comparison to previous Mondays.
Various temples, comprising the Shiv temple, were also tastefully decorated on the day.
Meanwhile, several prominent leaders, comprising Goa and Jharkhand chief ministers, Digambar Kamat and Madhu Koda respectively, also visited the Vishwanath temple to offer prayers today. The CMs also visited Sankat Mochan and Durgaji temples in the city.
