Phelp's USA team win epic 4x100m freestyle relay

Beijing, Aug 11: USA won gold in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay on Monday, smashing the WR at the same time. Eamon Sullivan of Australia broke the men's swimming 100 metres freestyle world record on the first leg of the same race.

The USA team of Michael Phelps/Garrett Weber-Gale/Cullen Jones/Jason Lezak won the title and broke the world record in a time of 3 minutes 8.24 seconds. France's team of Amaury Leveaux/Fabien Gilot/Frederick Bousquet/Alain Bernard took silver with a time of 3:08.32. Australia took bronze. The team of Eamon Sullivan*/Andrew Lauterstein/Ashley Callus/Matt Targett finished in 3:09.91

Eamon Sullivan of Australia broke the men's swimming 100 metres freestyle world record on the first leg of the race.

Sullivan clocked 47.24 seconds to beat the previous world record of 47.50 set by France's Alain Bernard at the European championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in March.
