PGTI announces 5 new tournaments

New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) In a major development for golf in the country, the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has announced five back-to-back tournaments with a total prize money of Rs one crore.

This impressive line-up heralds the second half of PGTI's 2007-08 season scheduled from August 20 onwards in Coimbatore, Chennai, Pune and Gurgaon.

The first is the PGTI Players Championship at Coimbatore Golf Club (August 20-23). The next - Tamil Nadu Open - is a new tournament that will make its debut at the Madras Gymkhana Club, Chennai (August 27-30).

The action will then shift to Pune with the PGTI Players Championship at the Poona Golf Club (September 2-5). The next stop will be Gurgaon which will play host to the AIS Open (September 10-13) and the DLF Masters (September 18-21).

The PGTI Players Championship events in Coimbatore and Pune will carry a prize money of Rs 30 lakh each. The AIS Open will also be a Rs. 30 lakh event. The purse for the Tamil Nadu Open is Rs 20 lakh.

Most of the country's top golfing professionals are expected to compete in these events.
