Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 11: Kerala Sports and Youth Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar said the Government would set up a Shooting Complex at Thodupuzha in Idukki district in the State soon.
Talking to newspersons here he said, the Government had earmarked Rs 30 lakh for the purpose and similar Centres would start here and at Palakkad.
Pointing out that the State had enough prospects in shooting, Vijayakumar said the Government had decided to start more such complexes in the State soon.
Mr Vijayakumar claimed that India's national shooting coach Sunny Thomas had been demanding an Institute in the State to provide proper training to shooters.
On the Centre's initial refusal to sanction his trip to Beijing Olympics and subsequently permitting him to proceed with some conditions stipulated by the External Affairs Ministry, the Minister said ''it is an insult to the State'' and added that he would not go to China with conditions.
Vijayakumar alleged that it was because of the Central Government's partisan attitude, the country could not do well in sports. Though the State had always performed well in sports, it could not get due recognition from the Centre, he added.
The Minister lauded Abhinav Bindra, who won the first Individual Gold for India at the Olympics in the men's 10m air rifle and for creating history in 108-years Indian Olympics.
