Kendrapara, Aug 10 (UNI) Police have arrested two prominent left wing extremists from Jagatsinghpur and seized several incriminating documents from their possession.
Jagatsinghpur Superintendent of Police R K Sharma said Prasanna Pal alias Jagu alias Pabitra, member of the state committee of the Maoist network, and Ranjan Rout, district-level deputy commandant of the outfit, were arrested on Friday and produced before the SDJM's Court of Jagatsinghpur yesterday.
Both the insurgents were sent to jail the SDJM court rejected their bail applications.
Police said Jaggu was one of the masterminds of ''Operation Ropeway'' at Nayagarha in which 15 police personnel and a civilian were killed in the Naxalite attack on February 15.
Jaggu, native of Panchupalli in Jagatsinghpur's Ersama area, was involved in the naxalite attack on Orissa State Armed Police unit at Badarama and also in naxal operation at Saranda in Jharkhand. A police personnel was killed and his weapons were snatched in the Badarama attack.
Prasanna Pal was one of the 12-core committee members formed by the Maoists for the Nayagarh attack.
Both Prasana and Ranjan, along with one Prasant Kumar Parida, who surrendered in May before the Erasama police, were spearheading the Maoists' network in Jagatsinghpur district.
During interrogation, Jaggu revealed that he had led the attack on the Police Training School at Nayagarha and looted arms.
Jaggu was drafted into the erstwhile proscribed MCC and became one of the oldest members of the CPI (Maoist) outfit which emerged following the merger of the PWG and MCC.
Ranjan Rout was the deputy commandant of the Deogarha-Sambalpur-Sundergarha committee and involved in a number of naxal attacks in Northern Orissa.
