Lucknow, Aug 10 (UNI) The newly constituted executive committee of the Uttar Pradesh Congress today started its two-day meeting to chalk out strategy for the coming Lok Sabha polls and to strengthen its organisational set-up in the state.
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, AICC secretaries Parvej Hashmi and Praveen Rashtrapal, Union Minister Jiten Prasada and UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi were present in the first meeting of the committee.
Over 300 new vice-presidents, general secretaries and secretaries of the UPCC were also participating in the meet to discuss organisational matters and other issues. However, executive committee members would join the meeting tomorrow.
According to UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi the meeting would decide on the future strategy of the party in the state in view of the coming Lok Sabha polls, and the state leaders would be asked to go to the masses to make them about the benefits of the civil nuclear deal.
Ms Joshi said during the meeting it was expected that the party leaders would announce agitational programme against the BSP government in UP over rampant corruption and other issues.
During the meeting the leaders would also express their views over the possibility of an electoral alliance with the Samajwadi Party in the state, she said.
The state executive of the Congress has over 600 members.
