New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) VHP International General Secretary Praveen Togadia warned the Centre against stoking fire over the ''legitimate demands'' of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti today.
The Amarnath issue could flare up into another Ayodhya type of agitation engulfing the whole country, he said. He was addressing the people at a dharna at Jantar Mantar organised by the Samiti protesting against revocation of land to the Shrine Board.
Mr Togadia warned that if the land and autonomous status were not restored to the shrine immediately, a chakka jam will be called in the capital on August 13 as a first step. ''If the Centre didn't respond to the demands positively, the countrymen would call for ''Amarnath Chalo'' to make it an Ayodhya like agitation,'' he claimed.
''The Samiti leaders claimed that the issue has united the country. The spontaneous support shown by the people joinig the dharna at Jantar Mantar bears testimony to the fast building support across the country over the issue, they added. A memorandum was also presented to President Prtibha Patil to immediately step in and help fulfil the demands of the Samiti.
Among those present on the occasion were Swami Chinmayanand from Hardwar and Acharya Dharmendra from Jaipur.
