SP leaders protesting land acquisition arrested
Noida, Aug 10: Several senior Samajwadi Party leaders were arrested on Sunday, Aug 10 for protesting against land acquisition by the Uttar Pradesh government in the name of beautification and educational purposes at village Badalpur in Gautam Buddh Nagar near here.
The SP leaders alleged that 250 acres of land was being appropriated by Chief Minister Mayawati ostensibly for beautification and educational purposes even as the real motive was the construction of a palatial residence by her father Mr Prabhu Dayal on a 16 acre plot nearby.
The SP leaders, along with over 1000 party workers, were on their way to the village when they were arrested at the UP Gate.
Later, the leaders were taken to Vaishali Colony in Ghaziabad where they were released on personal bonds.
Those arrested included Mohan Singh (MP), Dharmendra Yadav (MP), Vir Pal(MP Rajya Sabha) Raghurajya Sakya (MP), MLA and former Revenue Minister Ambika Chaudhary, MLC Ahmed Hassan and Kiran Pal.
