Smuggler escaped from DRI custody
Chennai, Aug 10 (UNI) A 30-year old passenger, who was taken into custody for travelling with smuggled goods, escaped from custody of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials at the International Airport here last night.
According to official sources here today, Haul Khan, hailing from Triplicane in Chennai, was taken into custody by the revenue officials for travelling with smuggled electronic items, worth Rs eight lakh.
He came here on a Chennai bound Singapore flight ''SQ 528'' at 2200 hrs last night.
While interrogating, suddenly, he had made a cut injury in his left hand with a sharp object.
After giving the first-aid, the panicked officials rushed him to a nearby hospital. Howevr, a gang, waiting outside the airport, stopped the department vehicle and nabbed the passenger from their custody. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence official Mr Kumara Vadivelu today filed a complaint with the airport police regarding the incident.
