Nigerian footballer arrested for possessing forged visa
Guwahati, Aug 10 (UNI) A Nigerian footballer was arrested from here today for tampering with his visa and staying on in the country illegally.
The foreign national, Edoho Gilbert, was on contract as a football player with a local club, Sunrise Athletic Club till September.
Police had suspected foul play when he had deposited his visa upon arrival in the city on July five last and the former had sent it for verification to New Delhi.
It was learnt Gilbert was issued a visa on September 9, 2007, with a validity up to October 6, 2007. He had, however, tampered with the date and made it valid till December five, 2008.
He was produced before the chief judicial magistrate and remanded in judicial custody. The police is in touch with the Nigerian embassy.
