Nathpa Jakhri project shuts due to high silt in Satluj
Shimla, Aug 10 (UNI) Power generation at the 1500 MW Nathpa Jakhri hydel project was suspended due to increase in the silt level in the Satluj river.
Official sources today said that the silt level crossed 9500 parts per million (PPM) due to heavy rain in the Tibet region in the last 48 hours. The permissible silt limits for this project over the Satluj is 4000 PPM.
The sources said that all six units of the project had to be shut down which would effect power supply to several northern states, including Punjab and Haryana where the demand is high due to the paddy season. It would take at least two days for the silt limits to normalise.
