IBM call centre employee gang raped in Pune
Pune, Aug 10: IBM call centre employee gangraped. In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman, working as a customer care executive at the International Business Machines' (IBM) call centre at Phursungi, was allegedly gangraped by eight to 10 people including the company car driver. The incident took place on the night intervening Thursday and Friday.
This is the second such case involving a call centre employee in the city. IT professional Jyoti Kumari Chaudhary was raped and killed at Talegaon Dabhade in November, 2007. The incident came to light after the victim's boyfriend registered an FIR of mass rape against unidentified cab drivers on Friday.
The police are trying to ascertain how she landed at this hospital. The victim, in a state of shock, was shifted to Sassoon Hospital on Saturday, Aug 9 afternoon. Cops said the girl was taken to secluded Bhekrainagar in Hadapsar on the Pune-Solapur Road on her way back to a working women's hostel in Hadapsar and raped.
The incident once again brings into sharp focus the safety of women working in call centres.
