SIT begins probe into SBI fake currency racket
Siddharthnagar, Aug 9 (UNI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) ordered by the Uttar Pradesh government to probe into the multi-crore counterfeit money racket unearthed recently in the currency chest of the State Bank of India (SBI), Domariaganj branch of this district, started its investigation here today.
The SIT had reached the district late last night and took the related documents from the police, official sources said.
The team began the work with collecting information from the branch and interrogating few employees.
The sources also revealed that the SIT was planning to take the accused suspended cashier Sudhakar Tripathi and the co-accused Abid sheikh in remand.
Meanwhile, the sources said the branch manager Dashrath Chirgauya had also been suspended. In order to speed up the screening, more machines have been pooled in.
On August 7, the State Home Secretary Mahesh Gupta announced the government's decision to order a SIT-probe into the Domariaganj fake currency racket.
He said the SIT would investigate into the racket, though no time limit has been given to them.
