Police burst teargas shells in Srinagar

Srinagar, Aug 9 (UNI) Police fired teargas shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse demonstrators in civil lines area protesting against the attack on muslims and Kashmiri drivers in Jammu.

Hundreds of youths again took to streets at Maisuma, the headquarters of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) this afternoon, raising pro-freedom and anti-BJP and Shiv Sena slogans.

However, when they tried to march towards the busy Budshah Chowk, police resorted to lathicharge which had no effect on them.

Later, police burst teargas shells to disperse them. However, they were again regrouping and pelting stones on police and passing vehicles.

Police and demonstrators also clashed at Koker Bazar, Budshah chowk and Madina chowk in whih Several demonstrators were injured.

Earlier, JKLF leaders addressing a gathering near old city bus stand, said they had given a call for demonstration in protest against the visit of all party central delegation to valley.

They alleged that communal forces were being given free hand to attack muslims and Kashmiri drivers while force was being used against peaceful demonstrators in Kashmir.

The leaders said JKLF chairman has refused to break his fast unto death though he was forcibly admitted by police in the Sher-e- Kashmir Medical Sciences at Soura is critical on August seven.

Mr Malik had started fast unto death from August 4 in protest against the economic blockade and alleged attacks on muslims and Kashmiri drivers.
