Leptospirosis resurfaces in South Andaman
Port Blair, Aug 9 (UNI) Some cases of deadly Leptospirosis (Andaman Hemorrhagic fever) have been reported in different localities of South Andaman area during the past few days, Andaman's Health Department confirmed today.
''Though there is no report of any death so far, we are taking all possible measures to curb the outbreak and spread awareness among the islanders for its prevention,'' Andaman's Health Department Director Dr N Sadasivan told UNI here.
In this diection, a special team comprising health educators, community health officers, public health nurses and ANMs of PHC Garacharma has been formed by the department.
'' The team is organising an awareness camp in the remote villages of South Andaman, '' Dr Sadasivan said.
Fever, accompanied by pain in body, cough with blood in the sputum, difficulty in breathing and redness of eyes, are some of the symptoms of Leptospirosis.
People should report immediately to the nearest health centres in the occurence of such symptoms, according to the director.
