Gulbarga, Aug 9 (UNI) The rain deficit Hyderabad-Karnataka region has been receiving good rains for the last three days under the influence of a low presure area in the Bay of Bengal.

This has brought back the smile on the face of farmers who were a worried lot after scanty rains badly affected their sowing operations in the area, a major producer of tur and black grams.

Rains in four districts Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur and Koppal have affected normal life. Officials of the agriculture department said the rains would help farmers to resume sowing operations, which had remained tardy. It would also help the standing crop, which had started to wither due to lack of rain, they added.

Meanwhile, the major reservoirs across river Krishna at Alamatti and Narayanpur were nearly full in the catchment areas in Shimoga and other districts and Maharashtra.

The water level at the Alamatti stood at 518.7 mt against its full level 519 mt. The inflow into the dam was at 65,000 cusecs, while the outflow was maintained at 25,000 cusecs.

Talking to UNI, Alamatti dam Executive Engineer V V Sherri said the crest gates of Almatty reservoir would be opened to release water to Narayanpur dam if the present level of inflow continued for two more days.

At Narayanpur project the water level stood at 491.30 mt, as against the full level 492.50 mt.
