Goa BJP to lead delegation to Karnataka CM on Mahdai issue
Panaji, Aug 9 (UNI) Goa BJP unit will lead a delegation to Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddiyurappa demanding stoppage of all irrigation projects on river Mahdai that affects the interest of riparian Goa.
Disclosing this to mediapersons here today, unit president and MP Shripad Naik said he had sought an appointment with the Karnataka chief minister by the end of this month to discuss the burning water dispute for an amicable settlement.
The issue has been pending in the Supreme Court even as Goa had sought constitution of a Central Water Tribunal to settle the dispute at the earliest, pending which it had demanded stoppage of all works on the Mahdai river.
Goa contended that construction of reservoirs on the river would affect the drinking water requirements of the state.
The party wishes to use its good offices in Karnataka, where it came back to power after the recent hustings.
