Barwani, MP, Aug 9 (UNI) Pune-based Central Food Laboratory Director R S Waghmare, who was arrested on the charge of falsifying evidence in a report analysing cow flesh as buffalo flesh, was today remanded to judicial custody after he could not furnish bail bonds.
''The accused was presented before Rajpur's Judicial Magistrate J P Singh who asked him to furnish two bail bonds of Rs 10,000 each,'' said Nagalwadi Station House Officer M L Purohit.
Dismissing the allegations against him, Waghmare (57) told UNI that they were part of a conspiracy to sully the lab's image.
A district police team executed the arrest yesterday.
''The team was led by Mr Purohit,'' Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar Mathur said here.
Akhil Bharatiya Gauraksha Samiti President Babu Bhai Desai wrote, from Ahmedabad to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan demanding that the police personnel instrumental for the expose should be rewarded.
The district police initiated proceedings on Wednesday against the director on the charges of fraudulent analysis by the facility showing cow flesh as buffalo flesh.
