Anti-Left platform sans Congress not possible: Dasmunsi

Kolkata, Aug 9 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today said no anti-Left platform is possible in West Bengal without entering into an alliance with the Congress.

Addressing a gathering at ' Panchayatiraj&Nagarpalia Sammelan' convention here, Mr Dasmunsi, also the West Bengal Pradesh Congress president, said the Congress had ten to fifteen per cent voters committed to the party across the state.

''It is not possible for a party to oust the 31-year ruling CPI(M)-led Left Front from power by opposing or staging a movement against them without the support of Congress,'' Mr Dasmunsi said.

He said the time had come to review Left parties as well as situations in Purulia, Bankura, East and West Midnapore, Coochbehar, North Bengal and Darjeeling, where CRPF had been deployed for controlling the area.

''It is because the Left parties have shattered the economic structure and stalled development, for which the Congress is not responsible,'' he felt.

Mr Dasmunsi held the Left parties and Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee responsible for the situation and attributed it to their attitude of neglect.

He also said after extracting the opportunities and facilities from the UPA government, the Left had withdrawn support to the Centre in protest against the Nuke deal. ''But the party is going to the US for wooing entrepreuneurs to do business here,'' he added.

The Congress would not compromise with the communal forces, apart from learning from the Left parties on how to fight the imperial forces, he stated.

Referring to the Singur impasse, he replied, ''We are not against industrialisation and do not want to stop the industrial drive in the state. We do not support Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's policy in the name of industrialisation.'' The Nandigram situation could be controlled if the state administration deployed CPRF in the troubled area and the police forces worked there neutrally, Mr Dasmunsi said.

''We urge our party leaders not to leave the party and we will work unitedly,'' he said.

The party had held district wise programmes on September 3 in North Bengal and September 8 in South Bengal and will later organise ''Writers' March''.
