3 dead, 6 injured as 'jhuggis' collapse in South Delhi
New Delhi, Aug 9 (UNI) At least three people died and six others injured after a cluster of 'jhuggis' collapsed due to the caving in of a drain located near it, in South Delhi this evening, fire brigade officials said.
At about 1700 hours, the 'jhuggis' (slum hutments) collapsed after the adjacent 'nullah' (drain) caved in, the officials said.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has announced an ex gratia compensation of Rs one lakh for every adult who died in the collapse and Rs 50,000 for every minor's death.
An ex gratia of Rs 20,000 has been announced for each of the injured.
Several fire service engines were rushed to rescue those trapped in the debris, the fire officials said.
Sources confirmed that at least three people died in the jhuggis' collapse while six others were injured.
The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals.
