Indore, Aug 8 (UNI) CPI(M) politbureau member Sitaram Yechury today expressed suspicion that religion-based violence could increase in the country in the future.

Mr Yechury, while addressing Shailendra Shaily memorial lecture on inter-relationship between imperialism and communalism, charged the BJP with spreading communal venom on the Amarnath land issue for the sake of Hindu votes.

He claimed that the BJP had cheated people, as it did not let the government fall over the nuclear deal issue but pretended it opposed the deal. BJP MPs accepted money during the vote of confidence.

''The BJP and the Congress are both working for making the country slave at the hands of the US. Cultural diversity is being destroyed due to imperialism and communalism,'' he said.

Mr Yechury said two nations were being developed today in the country. On the one hand, there was 'Shining India' of a few people, on the other, there was 78 per cent population starving from hunger.

''The nuclear deal would provide energy but it would not provide food to poor people. The country can produce same amount of energy by utilising resources present in the country with one third of amount spent on getting nuclear energy,'' the leader opined.
