Wild elephant dies due to illness in forest
Tirunelveli, Aug 8 (UNI) A female wild elephant died due to an illness in the Karuppasamy Temple forest beat near Vasudevanallur, here today.
Forest department sources said the forest staff spotted the pachyderm, suffering from unknown illness, lying near a jungle stream. Efforts to chase away the other wild elephants which stood guard near the ailing elephant by the forest officials had failed yesterday.
The elephant died this morning. Later, a team of vertenary doctor's conducted post-mortem and the body was buried in the forest.
Hundreds of elephants in the Western Ghats used to come to jungle streams in Vasudevanallur reserve forests to drink water, the sources added.
