Two killed in house collapse in Haryana

Chandigarh, Aug 8 (UNI) Two people were killed in a house collapse in Haryana following moderate to heavy rains in North-West India as monsoon remained active in the region during the past 24-hours, triggering landslides in Himachal Pradesh.

A woman, identified as Santra Devi, and her 15-year old son, residents of Nursaar Johar, were killed when the roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rains in Bhiwani yesterday, where many areas were water logged.

The District Administration has taken steps to shift the residents of water logged areas to safer places. Special arrangements have been made for the flood affected people of Dinod village at the local government school.

Efforts are being made to drain out the flood water from various localities in Bhiwani with the help of 24 pump sets. More pump sets have been requisitioned from Mohindergarh, Hisar and Jind districts for the purpose.

The District Administration has sought help from the mechanical division of Army, stationed at Hissar, for the drainage of flood water in Bhiwani.

Three children, who were washed away in swollen Rata rivulet at Jahrmajri in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh this morning, were rescued by a group of labourers, a report from Solan said. The rivulet was flowing above the danger mark.

Four migrant labourers who were trapped on a elavated rock in the rivulet, were also rescued, the report added.

Moderate to heavy rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, triggering fresh landslides in the state. Some areas in Kangra and Mandi districts reported heavy rainfall.
