Teachers' recruitment: SC refuses to stay HC order
New Delhi, Aug 8 (UNI) The Supreme Court today refused to stay the Madras High Court order striking down the notification of the Tamil Nadu government laying down that teachers at secondary level can be recruited only in the district where they are enrolled with the employment exchange.
The Tamil Nadu government while filling the 7223 vacancies of secondary grade teachers imposed the restrictions that those enrolled in a particular district employment exchange can be considered only for that particular district, meaning thereby that candidate from other districts from the state are not eligible for vacancies in other district.
A bench headed by Justice R V Ravindran also expressed the view that the High Court was right in holding that the state government order violated Article 16 (2) of the Constitution of India.
The Supreme Court, however, issued notices to the respondent on a petition filed by the Tamil Nadu government.
