Pune, Aug 8 (UNI) Tata Ceramics Ltd, a leading manufacturer of fine bone China crockery for world famous brand companies of Europe and USA, has now entered the retail business in the country by opening the first showroom here today.
Addressing a news conference, Tata Ceramics Managing Director Manish Gupta said the company was targetting a turnover of Rs 12 crore in the next two years after catering to the hospitality sector for the past 12 years. Ceramics industry has a market potential of Rs 500 crore including the top end, medium and lower ends, he said.
''We are targetting the luxury and premium market that is Rs 100 crore worth. Presently, the needs of this segment is being catered to by imports. Our products are safe, we do not use lead or any other harmful chemicals in the processes. We intend to design and develop crockery to suit Indian needs, for instance small bowls (katoris),'' he said.
Asked about the retail plans, he said some Westside stores will have the crockery besides exclusive showrooms. The company plans to open showrooms in other cities like Aurangabad, Nashik, Nagpur and Goa shortly.
Presently, the plant capacity at Cochin is eight million pieces, while the actual production is seven million pieces, Mr Gupta informed, adding, the company plans to enter export market after five years primarily the Asian markets.
Tata Ceramics will manufacture the entire range of tableware products covering Dinner Sets, Tea Sets, Breakfast Sets, Mugs and other Gift Items. The crockery adorns the dining rooms of Rashtrapati Bhavan, as well as many Raj Bhavans, Indian Embassies, Indian Missions, the Taj Group as well as other five star hotels.
